Why is this problem important?

Time congestion can be a significant issue in the travel industry, and fixing that lead to cost savings for both travelers and travel providers, which can have a positive impact on the industry's economic performance.

Ventour

After interviewing 4 people that frequently travel, I determined 3 key insights:

 interviews

  • Traveling is stressful, especially in environments such as airports, and would appreciate tools to help them feel more organized and in control.

  • Users want to see real-time information about things like flight delays, gate changes, and traffic congestion.

  • Users find it annoying to open multiple apps and emails to access their travel information.

I created a user persona named Sam that reflects the findings of my research.

How can the solution help someone like Sam?

  • Simplify the travel planning process.

  • Offer real-time help and recommendations to reduce stress during the trip.

  • Provide a more personalized and enjoyable travel experience.

User Flow

user flow

After research, I began mapping out the user journey, information architecture and user flows of my proposed solution.

I decided that there would be 5 main sections of the product:

1. Home

2. Add Trip or Stop

3. Itineraries

4. Explore

5. Profile

I mapped out 3 main tasks:

1. Create a trip and add stops.

2. Access trip details and travel documents.

3. Find a new destination to add to the itinerary.

wireframes

After creating the user flow, I began with quick, casual sketches to begin visualizing the wireframes. Afterwards, I started developing some medium-fidelity wireframes.

feedback

While designing the final screens, I gathered user feedback during various points of the design process.

Users appreciated the Itineraries Home screen where all their created trips were easily accessible and customizable. However, some users found the block element taking up too much screen space and suggested filling or shrinking it. Users also wanted more information, such as trip dates, readily available to avoid checking the Trip Plan details page repeatedly.

Users appreciated the organization of Trip Plan pages but suggested more options for sections, like a wider variety of categories for the 'Explore' page, and the ability to add documents beyond passports and visas.

Users liked how they can quickly add anything at anytime. Something confusing was how the menu items were worded, as “Add Document” did not make sense for a first time user. The menu text was also difficult to read.

design

Design

The app utilizes a vibrant color palette of purples and oranges, and incorporates colorful illustrations to create an inclusive and welcoming aesthetic. These design decisions were made to appeal to a broad range of age groups and differentiate Ventour from its competitors in the travel app market.

It was also important to consider that the interface should not overwhelm the actual tasks.

Finally, I created a hi-fidelity prototype based on the changes I made from my feedback and the style guide. I prototyped on an iPhone 13 Mini since it is easier to scale up a design than shrinking it.

The app also imagines collaboration between public transportation companies and user experience in places such as the airport, creating a more streamlined and convenient experience for travelers.
